Mac 2001-2013

Last weekend we lost our buddy Mac.  He was with us for almost 12 years... and was loved by everyone who knew him.

Eat will ya!

Ben really wanted Mac to eat his food Saturday. I came downstairs and he had him in a headlock and was dragging him to the bowl and trying to shove his head into the food... "Eat your food Mac! Come on!"

One clean dog...

Mac got groomed on Wednesday. The boys went with me that afternoon to pick him up and Sam was so excited to "help" with the leash. He has been walking him around the house and yard the last few days. This is the first time they have cut his hair really short - finally! I always tell them to go short and to cut the feathers on his tail - and in 7 years this is the first time any groomer has done it! Ben is so funny - he keeps asking if we can put Mac's tail back on! Reilly gets a bath at home this weekend - dang that dog is a shedding machine!

Yellow Dog Update

Our vet called yesterday with the results of Mac's labs. The tumor they took from his elbow was malignant... a soft tissue sarcoma. This type of cancer generally doesn't spread but is locally aggressive. There is a chance it will return in the same area...time will tell. We will see him Thursday to have his stitches removed and will get further info. In the meantime Mac is doing well and in good spirits. Thanks to all of you who have emailed and called to see how he is doing!

Our Furry Patient

The boys have been helping take care of Mac. He has been laying around while the kids read to him, cuddle with him, and bring him bones. He is still a little sleepy from the surgery but seems to be doing well. We should know more in a few days.

Big Mac

Mac had his follow up appointment today with the surgeon. It turns out he has a blown ACL in his knee. During the exam they also found what they believe to be cancer on his elbow joint. Just gets better and better doesn't it! They could do both surgeries together for the small price of $5000... (that is not a typo). We could choose not to fix the knee although he would eventually develop painful arthritis. If we opt for the surgery there is a 50% chance that his other knee could go out. He is only 7 yrs old which makes it such a hard decision. So not a very uplifting visit with the vet. As you can see Mac looks a little bummed about the whole situation.
