Last Friday marked the last day of preschool for Ben. I can't believe he is off to kindergarten in the fall.
How is he getting so big so fast?
“I see children as kites. You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground. You run with them until you’re both breathless ... they crash ... you add a longer tail ... finally they are airborne, but they need more string so you keep letting it out. With each twist of the ball of twine there is a sadness that goes with the joy, because the kite becomes more distant, and somehow you know it won’t be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that bound you together and soar as it was meant to soar, free and alone.”
Harper has developed quite the personality. She is starting to get more independent and strong willed like her brothers. The other day it was quiet for a few minutes and I thought I should probably check on her... but was printing something really quick in the office. She wandered in with chocolate all over her face and hands and was holding a tiny remnant of a huge chocolate easter egg. She grabbed my hand and marched right into the kitchen, opened a drawer and showed me where she found it... and was very proud of the fact that she peeled the foil off and threw it in the trash. Stinker!
Sunday was the Rock n Roll Half Marathon. My FIRST half! It was the hardest thing I have ever done... a challenging course with lots of hills. A bunch of team Athena friends were out cheering which was so fun and kept me going when things got tough.
I beat my goal by almost 5 min with a finish time of 1:41. I've been dealing with injuries since February so feel pretty great about being able to run this race and with my time.
Sam is playing kid-pitch baseball this year. Last week he got a chance to pitch an inning... and he struck out 2 batters! Every time he threw a strike he would do a little fist pump. Brian was teaching that night and was so bummed to miss it!
Harper is VERY opinionated when it comes to what she will wear. Some days she insists on her bathing suit - even if it is over her clothes. Today it was a silky night gown, rain boots and spiderman mask.
Sam turned 8 on Sunday! Wow! So hard to believe he is growing up and changing so fast. Brian and I took 8 boys to the bowling alley/arcade to celebrate. Everyone came home with us and boys are LOUD! My boys get crazy but 8 of them together and it gets wild! They all had a blast and it was great to see Sam and his buddies so happy.
Here is Ben playing T-Ball on Wednesday night. After about 45 min he gets bored... and it ended with him walking off the field when he didn't get picked to play first base. The kid has a little bit of a stubborn streak... wonder where he gets it?
Sunday we got to play all afternoon with our cousins at Oregon Park in NE. The boys keep asking when we can go back. Great playground, lots of grass and huge trees. Thanks Kelly for planning!
